Wittmund – Lübeck

June 24th

Well, there you have it! The days are starting to get shorter. Soon, Jaakko will be throwing the cold stone into the lake as we Finns say. After next month, the school autumn term will begin, ending with Christmas celebrations. And it’s not that far off now. To celebrate, today I’ll enjoy a long cold one in Lübeck! Eva had a short one!

We started off early enough this morning to make sure we got to the Citti-Park in Lübeck before the crowds. And it’s a good thing we did. There’s no parking space left now. It seems like there are a lot of RV travelers out and about!

The trip here took just over three hours in one go. I’m starting to get quite comfortable driving this van. An excellent thing, especially on the German autobahns, is having a powerful enough engine that can get our Tellu moving like a pike out of the reeds, even when we’re already over a hundred kilometers per hour. I prefer driving at slightly lower speeds, but on these autobahns, sometimes you just have to go with the flow!

This part of Germany is quite boring in terms of scenery, so we didn’t stop much to take pictures. Europe is one large production area, now equipped with wind turbine forests and solar energy fields. The desire to detach from Russian energy is visible in this infrastructure.

After settling into the Citti-Park, we took the bikes off the back of Tellu and headed to explore the old town of Lübeck. There were some old houses and churches right in the middle of the town. We enjoyed a long and a short cold one by the river while lightly comparing the riverside restaurant culture between Lübeck and Basel. For me, Basel came out on top!

The return trip was brisk enough that we started sweating, We cooled ourselves down with ice cream in Citti-Park. Here, these shopping centers close already at eight, so we headed back to Tellu to update the blog. And now it’s done! Enjoy and thank you very much. Tomorrow we’ll be writing from Sweden! Hejssan grabbar! Vi är på väg dit! We are on our way there!
